Addictions to pain are far more dangerous than any other addiction in the world. The pain experienced is often far worse than the victim allows anyone to believe. Self-mutilation is, more often than not, for the reason to escape the real world and/or mental stress, yet the addicts can discover joy from causing pain to themselves.

Many self-mutilators may effect damage to themselves in an effort to get noticed. The self-mutilator usually wants somebody to show sympathy for him or her, and may create some level of pain to themselves. In uncommon instances, the injury leads to death and most times because the individual actually cuts deeper than he/she meant to cut. The rush of feelings these people experience often causes adrenaline to rise, which causes an addiction to be set up. Consequently, we have to look at lots of facts of pain addictions, or self-mutilation addictions in advance of looking at why these people do what they do.

Escape, as defined, is wrongfully described in addictions, since most persons seeking to escape totally from reality are using an escape mechanism, which helps them to avoid unbearable truths and/or responsibilities. The act is a procession of thoughts or behaviors that are triggered by habits. In other words the person becomes used to this action, thus it becomes a feature of their lives.

Pain addicts frequently use self-mutilation in an attempt to sidestep expectations placed on them by relatives, life in whole, or college. Often-times living up to expectations is more than a person can bear. At the time the person commits self-mutilation, it causes the adrenaline to surge to the brain creating a ‘high’ feeling. This is more than often adequate, and the addict may not go further till the next time the high is required.

In a few instances, death happens resulting from the symptoms brought on by the addiction. When the addict tires out from torment, he/she might create, or act on, suicidal tendencies which are frequently brought on by depression. This triggers profound-seated feelings, which in turn leads to death.

Self-mutilators may attack their wrists, arms, legs, neck and most other parts of the body. If suicidal tendencies are there often-times, the addict may not inform anyone. For this reason, this addiction is well, above the norm, unsafe. However, most persons suffering these addictions determined to gain attention, were filling the need that was never filled. This then is an escape mechanism that provides pleasure, yet the pleasure is only ‘skin deep’.

Accidents can happen, especially if the person cuts deeper than he/she meant to, and is loath to let anyone know. This person might take care of the problem on his/her own, firmly believing that they can solve the issue, yet fear surrounds the mind, and a person is ‘led’ by the emotions. A serious mistake!

Anyone suffering from any form of addiction, mental disorder, depression, etc, is lacking the ability to stay in contact with the mind, i.e. the person is functioning on emotions. When a person functions solely on emotions, the person is placing themself in a precarious situation, and is vulnerable to others.

Teens are often the ones addicted to pain. Teens caught up in peer pressure, Devil worship etc, are trapped in the world of illusion and will often resort to addictions to ease the hurt.

Pain addicts will often feel twitchy, unnerved, stressed out etc, and will suffer depression often. The addicts could often create injury to themselves to ease generally known symptoms brought on by stressors, i.e. these people have the incapacity to deal with life and its expectations. Consequently, we are looking at an incapacity to cope, which is found in lots of disorders, addictions, and in life itself while we look at pain addictions.

According to a few, pain addictions are often backed by basic personality disorders , which is one of the most serious disorders in the listings of mental health. BPD patients often feel left alone, and will often do anything, even if it hurts themselves or someone else, to gain control.

Teens believe itâ??s cool to use marijuana because they hear songs about it and see it on Television and in movies. Some adolescence may sense they need marijuana and other drugs to help them run away from problems at home, at school, or with friends.

No matter how many shirts and caps you see printed with the marijuana leaf, or how many groups sing about it, remember this: teens wonâ??t have to make use of marijuana just because they believe everybody else is doing it. Most adolescents do not use marijuana!

Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of the hemp plant. You may hear marijuana called by lane names such as pan, herb, wild plant, prairie, boom, chronic etc. There are more than 200 terminology terms for marijuana. Sinsemilla (sin-seh-me-yah; itâ??s a Spanish word), hashish (â??hashâ? for short), and hash oil are stronger forms of marijuana.

Teens smoke marijuana

Opposing to fashionable belief, most teenagers do not use marijuana. Among undergraduate surveyed in a yearly national survey, only about one in six 10th graders report they are recent marijuana users

Young people use marijuana

There are various reasons why some kids and young adolescence start smoking marijuana. Many immature teens smoke marijuana because they see their brothers, sisters, friends, or even older family members using it. Some use marijuana because of gaze pressure.

Regular marijuana users repeatedly develop breathing problems, such as chronic coughing and puffed. Marijuana contains the same cancer causing chemicals as tobacco. The amount of tar inhaled by marijuana smokers and the intensity of carbon monoxide absorbed by those who smoke marijuana are three to five times greater than among tobacco smokers

All forms of marijuana used by teens are mind-altering. In other words, they alter how the brain works. Teens take core vigorous chemical in marijuana. THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), they also have more than 400 other chemicals. Marijuanaâ??s effects on the user depend on its strength or effectiveness, which is related to the amount of THC it contains (5). The THC content of marijuana has been rising since the 1970s.

The way marijuana used

Marijuana is habitually smoked as in a pipe or a bong by teens. Recently, it has appeared in cigar wrappers called blunts, when it is frequently combined with another drug, such as crack cocaine.

Marijuana stays in the userâ??s (teens) body as

THC in marijuana is quickly absorbed by greasy tissues in various organs. Generally, traces of THC can be detected by typical urine testing methods several days after a smoking session. However, in chronic heavy users, traces can occasionally be detected for weeks after they have stopped using marijuana.

    S-e-x
Bullying or abusing others
Video Games
How do I know this? Because I asked.

I’ve spoken to thousands of students across the U.S. and Canada about addictions. Each participant was asked: “What habits(s) do you most want to stop or reduce in your life right now?” The answers were startling.

A group of 265 students (Grades 7-12) anonymously listed 92 different destructive habits with which they were struggling – a total of 1031 times! This means that each child had an average of four habits from which they wanted FREEDOM.

The 12 most common addictive habits are listed above. The other 80 are equally as shocking. (for a full list visit www.thepowerofchoice.ca)

Who Are These Kids and Where Do They Come From?

For only 265 kids to self-identify 1031 bad habits and addictions seems incredible. But it’s true. Yet there was nothing unusual about the type of schools these kids came from and the communities they lived in ranged from low-to-high income.

Often, these weren’t your typical “at-risk” students, referred by school officials, guidance counselors or parents. And for school staff, it was an eye opener. Many had been unaware of how many students were suffering in silence, and were stunned to hear of the multitude of addictive behaviors.

How do we reach these Kids?

As a school speaker, I am fully aware that trying to scare students out of experimenting with dangerous or illegal activities is not the most effective approach.

That’s why I use my personal story of addiction in a different way — as a way of connecting my own challenges, pain and choices with theirs, so as to inspire those in pain to attend my healthy habits workshop and 28-day program.

What I’ve discovered is that kids relate to this. Yes, many are alienated or angry. Those with serious behaviours and addictions are afraid, and they’re desperate for a way out. But when someone is honest and direct with them, and has practical answers to the problems they’re facing, they are ready to listen.

How Much “Choice” Do We Really Have?

What I’ve recognized and teach kids in my workshops is that being a victim is a choice. Yes, we may have been “victimized” and experienced bad things in our lives. But how we look at those events now is up to us.

As a teenager, my choices led me to become and stay addicted. By transforming what was behind my addictions and becoming responsible for the decisions I had made, I am now able to live free of addictions, rather than as a victim of my past.

Applying this in our Schools

What I want students to know is that they have this same choice. My workshops help kids shift their attention and energy away from the seemingly hopeless nature of their “bad habits,” and redirect it towards developing healthy habits.

We focus on their power to choose, to support others, and be supported by a community and buddy system, while reducing their bad habits until they get to abstinence (if that is what they choose).

This message encourages and enables young people to make far more change than any threats or negative statistics could ever do. And the results are proving very positive.

Final Words

I believe it’s up to us, as adults, to teach kids to take responsibility for the choices that affect their lives, and to offer them practical steps that will give them positive results. And the best way to teach that is to do it for ourselves.

As Gandhi said, “be the change you want to see in the world.”

by Carl-Peter

Look – the first thing that you need to understand, is that recovery from drug addiction and alcoholism, is something totally separate from treating these addictions.

The treatment of addiction is in most cases about the period of roughly a month – where you’ll be at rehab or addiction treatment facility detoxing and receiving various form of treatment – to help you deal with the various factors that have resulted in you going down the road of addiction.

Recovery then – is what follows going to rehab and receiving treatment. It’s pretty much then about what you do for the rest of your life to maintain your sobriety by staying off the drugs or alcohol. I think many that go into treatment don’t get this at first and that’s why relapse rates can be high – because they see treatment as the end of the road for them, when in fact it’s really only the beginning.

Recovery from alcoholism and addiction then, is in essence, about the consistent habits and new way of life you create for yourself – so that you stay on the road of recovery road and don’t end up relapsing.

It’s the 12-Step or other spiritual program you follow, the new (non-addict) friends you now spend your time with, it’s the continuous taking ownership of your emotions and feelings so you don’t get into a state where you want to have that drink or pick up that drug, phoning that friend for support when you’re feeling low and more vulnerable

So in other words – recovery is all about taking continuous action and forming new life affirming habits that will leave the destructive addict part of you a thing of history – and bring to the fore your warrior, spirited self that will flourish despite what life may throw at you.

So the treatment of any addiction should be seen as the stepping stone and preparation for a life of recovery. It’s the beginning – rather than the end of the road. Now I know there are people that leave a life of addiction behind them without going the treatment/rehab route – but they’ve also done it by making significant changes in most areas of their lives and working at it consistently.

So when trying to understand alcohol addiction recovery and drug addiction recovery – remember its something you do and work at for the rest of your life. It can be hard at the beginning, but with time does become much easier – and soon your life will be unrecognisable from the nightmare it was.
