How to Prevent Teen Drug Use
While there are many issues with teenagers that strike fear in the heart of a parent, teen drug use is the prime one. But you can’t let your fear force you to ignore drug concerns in your child’s life. Each and every teenager knows someone in school who experiments or uses drugs. Every teen has seen it on television or in the newspapers. To bring up a drug-free teenager you’ll need to put your fear aside and empower your teenager with all the positive aspects of life to meet this issue head on.
Few things parents should know about preventing teen drug use:
· Be there for your teen when he needs to get out of a bad situation.
· Get to know your teen’s friends and their parents on a first name basis.
· Keep connected in the after school hours.
· Be a role model.
· Unite your family against drugs using strong family beliefs.
Signs of Teens drugs use:
· loss of interest in family activities and disrespecting family rules
· defiant of authority
· poor work performance
· negative, argumentative, paranoid or confused, destructive, anxious
· overly tired or hyperactive
· drastic weight loss or gain
· reduced memory and attention span
Though some of these warning signs of drug abuse may be present in your teen, but it does not mean that they are definitely using drugs. There could be causes for some of these behaviors. Help answer the question about
Teen Drugs
What would you do if you found out that your teen is using drugs?
I have knowledge that leads me to believe that my 15 year old daughter is doing drugs. I'm worried that she is going down the wrong path lately. Her behavior has gotten pretty bad and I don't want her lil brother and sister to be influenced and effected by her bad choices and attitude. What should I do?

the best influence for me as a teen was when we had people who had first hand experience – ie recovered users, people that work in rehab…. although it doesnt work for everyone it is good to hear from people first hand with knowledge of how drugs completely wreck peoples lives… as for me i am one of the lucky ones that got off it – finished school, am at university and have a family (1 child and 1 on the way) and a boyf who loves me…. we not all that lucky
good on you guys fr doin this

Alot of parents are becoming fed up with their kids being addicted to drugs and alcohol so they are beginning to lean towards rehabilitation centers, such as RecoveryConnection.Org…theres a helpline on the homepage for those interested

That is a tough one… part of me thinks its a good thing, but part of me doesn't. Kids can go to the store & buy condoms, I did in high school… so why can't they. They want everyone to know they are having sex… so there you go. Show it off. But many kids will not go buy them.. won't spend the money on them… etc… but they are going to have sex anyway, so if the school providing condoms actually gets kids to use them.. then it's a great idea. I dunno.. part of me thinks that we are taking away way too much of parent responsibilities and pushing them on the schools. It's a question that has multiple answers.
I just noticed its drugs we're talking about. It is not a good idea unless the kids DR gives a note that they can take the pill. YOu have no idea what kids medical histories are.. the schools cannot take that liability

D.A.R.E. is probably working as well as the "McGruff the Crime Dog" program. Studies showed years ago that it was having about 0% effect on kids, but it still lives on… don't know why!
Personally, I think they should re-route the $$ used in these two programs and provide a sort of boot-camp for kids who are starting to get in trouble with the law. But that's just me… I like to nip things in the bud at the first sign of trouble.
